Is there a Mazda SUV for you? If you admire the impressive acceleration and driving manners of the Mazda brand, but need an SUV, here’s what you’ll find.

The current lineup of Mazda SUVs includes the CX-5, CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90. Most of these models that have a “0” at the end of the number have replaced previous versions that were smaller. The CX-5 is the only holdover from the previous Mazda lineup, but that model isn’t long for the world and will likely go away soon.

Here are some key differences in the Mazda SUV lineup for you to consider.

Are any models compact?

The compact SUV market has done the same thing we’ve seen with midsize trucks. Today’s compact SUVs are nearly as large as older midsize models. That said, the Mazda models are on the smaller side of the spectrum, with one model in the subcompact class and two in the compact category. The Mazda CX-30 is the subcompact SUV, while the CX-5 and CX-50 fill the compact category extremely well. These three SUVs are the most affordable and most athletic of the models in this brand’s SUV lineup.

Will we find a midsize SUV?

A new Mazda CX-70 hits the market for 2025, and it fills in as part of the midsize SUV class. Technically, the CX-90 is also a midsize model, but the CX-70 only has two rows of seats, which means more cargo room behind the second row of seats. The CX-90 is a three-row midsize SUV that tightens things up in the rear, but if you need three rows, it’s certainly a good choice. These two SUVs are the same size, making the difference in the seating offered.

Does Mazda have a full-size model?

When you think of a full-size SUV, images of the Chevy Suburban, Ford Expedition, and GMC Yukon come to mind. Mazda doesn’t have any vehicles that can compete in this category with these big, truck-like SUVs. That said, crossover SUVs have been growing and becoming bigger and more imposing than ever before. Unfortunately, Mazda doesn’t have a vehicle that truly crosses over to the full-size category; the CX-90 is as close as this brand gets to having a large SUV.

Does Mazda make hybrid SUVs?

Mazda has been working to expand its hybrid SUV lineup beyond the CX-90. The hybrid CX-50 just made it to the market, and the CX-70 shares its platform and powertrains with the CX-90, which means there are technically three hybrid Mazda models to choose from. The CX-90 uses a 3.3-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with a mild hybrid system, but the PHEV version is the real winner, with up to 26 miles of all-electric driving range. This makes the CX-90 and CX-70 more efficient than without the hybrid system.

Is there a three-row Mazda SUV?

The Mazda CX-90 has three rows of seats, making it a competitive midsize SUV with room for a large family to enjoy the drive. In typical Mazda fashion, this SUV has premium cabin materials, comfortable seating, and dynamic driving manners to make it a pleasure to take out on any road. The beautiful styling doesn’t offset the small space in the rear, which makes the third-row only good for children or as a cargo space for some of your gear.

Are these SUVs affordable?

Mazda has long had a premium look and feel to its lineup, which makes some shoppers think that Mazda vehicles are much more expensive than other mainstream brands. Across the lineup, the Mazda SUV prices are:

  Mazda CX-30 Mazda CX-5 Mazda CX-50 Mazda CX-70 Mazda CX-90
Base MSRP $26,415 $29,990 $31,720 $41,900 $39,300
Highest Trim MSRP $38,220 $40,600 $44,720 $58,905 $58,905

The starting prices are affordable compared to other models in the market, making them easy to choose and drive. As you move up through the price range, the top models are a bit expensive for mainstream SUVs.

Are these SUVs fuel efficient?

As you would expect, the smaller Mazda SUV models are more efficient than larger versions, but the hybrid models could add a bit more to the conversation. With up to 26 miles of electric driving, the PHEV models allow for some short-distance driving without any worry that you will need to use gasoline during the drive.

Here are the efficiency figures of the Mazda SUVs:

  Mazda CX-30 (2.5-liter NA) Mazda CX-30 (2.5-liter turbo) Mazda CX-(5 2.5-liter NA) Mazda CX-5 (2.5-liter Turbo) Mazda CX-50 (2.5-liter NA) Mazda CX-50 (2.5-liter turbo) Mazda CX-50 (2.5-liter hybrid) Mazda CX-70 Mazda CX-70 (PHEV) Mazda CX-90 (3.3 Turbo) Mazda CX-90 (3.3 Turbo S) Mazda CX-90 (PHEV)
