The new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will soon bolster the EV truck market. This new electric pickup ensures you have an alternative to the F-150 Lightning.

The new electric Silverado brings stats that blow away the electric Ford pickup. This new Chevy brings 450 miles of driving range, up to 10,000 pounds of towing capacity, and a 10.2-kW onboard power supply to power other electric items or your jobsite tools. The first version of the Silverado EV that appears is the 4WT model, which takes the term Work Truck into the EV pickup world.

Chevy designed this truck for practicality

The new Silverado brings some styling elements that remind us of the old Avalanche, but much of the Silverado’s design is built around practicality. You’ll immediately notice the rugged lines, bold front end, and powerful presence that set it apart from the current Ford F-150 Lightning. The Silverado is only being offered in a Crew Cab layout. Unlike the Ford, the new Chevy EV truck was designed from the ground up and doesn’t share its platform with the gas-powered variant. Could this be a factor that makes the Chevy a more desirable EV truck than the Ford.

This new EV truck is made for the work fleet

It might be little things in some ways, but when you can make a truck that meets the needs, demands, and consistency of the workforce, you’ve got something that just fits. The new Chevrolet Silverado EV has a gear selector on the steering column instead of in the center console. This positioning offers a universal feeling while also freeing up more storage space in the center console for some of your smaller items. It’s important to have storage space in a work truck and this truck gives you that.

Your work crew has lots of room

Crew Cab pickups are great for work crews to have space for everyone to ride along from jobsite to jobsite. This is part of what you’ll find in the new Silverado EV. The huge rear seating area offers more space than any other full-size pickup truck in the market. The rear seats can be flipped up to present more storage space for tools, work clothes, or cargo. If you want this area segmented, Chevy offers various storage bins that can be mounted under this seat to give you the storage configuration desired.

A spacious cargo bed makes this a great truck

The cargo bed of the new Chevrolet Silverado EV measures 5 feet 11 inches in length. This doesn’t sound like enough length for a work truck, but when you put the tailgate down, you’ve got 8 feet of length to make this truck bed long enough for full sheets of plywood and sheetrock during your drive. The fleet 4WT trim and other work truck models of this pickup won’t receive the mid-gate option, which opens the rear to the seating area. This feature is only offered for retail versions of this new electric Chevy pickup truck.

Plenty of power and range from Chevy

The Ultium battery pack platform gives the WT’s dual-motor AWD layout that brings 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. This is plenty of power to handle most jobs, including towing. The Silverado EV 4WT brings 10,000 pounds of towing capacity, but Chevy initially promised 8,000 pounds. Those that have used this truck to tow a heavy load have reported this new electric pickup is much more stable than the F-150 Lightning while towing.

Of course, the biggest news of this new pickup is the impressive driving range. This is another area where Chevy under-promised but over-delivered, which is exactly what we want. Originally, Chevy promised at least 400 miles of range, and they did one better by bringing in 450 miles o driving range. This gives the new Silverado 4WT an advantage of 130 miles over the Extended-Range version of the F-150 Lightning.

Impressive ride and handling await you in the Silverado EV

Like most electric vehicles, the new Chevrolet Silverado EV is heavy, but it’s also nimble and agile on the road. You’ll find a composed ride that makes use of an excellent suspension that absorbs the bumps and road imperfections with ease. This means you’ve got a comfortable and controlled driving experience, despite this truck being made without an air suspension.

There’s a lot to admire about the new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, including the 10.7-cubic-foot eTrunk in the front of this truck. Could this new Chevy be the electric truck you love to drive when you’ve got a big job?
