When you head out to the track there are some cars you’ll see that have left parts out in the name of weight savings. Whether the air conditioner, radio, and any comfort items have been left out or not is up to the manufacturer and the driver of the car, but one car that keeps the air conditioner in place in order to create the necessary power and cooling is one of the fastest and most powerful cars on the market today. When you think about this fact, the car that has the air conditioners still in place is one that can give you the ride you want on the track and then take you home with a cool cabin to enjoy on the ride.

The subject of this discussion is the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. This new sports car is made and tuned up to be able to provide 840 horsepower from the supercharged engine under the hood. At this horsepower level more of everything was needed above what the Hellcat had offered. The brakes had to be bigger, the chassis stronger, the suspension stiffer and the cooling system improved in some way.

The cooling system is where the Demon shines in order to reach this amazing power level. When you take this car to the track, you will want to set the air conditioning system to chill the intake temperatures and assist in the cooling of the engine. By cooling the engine even more than with just the intakes the Demon is a vehicle that can make even more power and won’t overheat when you reach the high rpm levels that it takes to reach this massive amount of horsepower. Typically, an air conditioning system is turned off completely when at the track, but with the Demon the system is kept running and uses a passageway that has been added to allow the air conditioner to cool the air even more.
The reason most cars that run at a track turn off the air conditioner is because this system drains power from the engine in order to operate. With the Demon, this power is recirculated, recycled and the result is an ability to operate at even higher power levels. This might now sound possible, but the Dodge engineers have made it happen and the result is the Dodge Challenger that can race to a quarter-mile in less than ten seconds when at the track.

If you want to learn in depth about how this system works, check out the video below. Understand, the Demon is a car unlike any other on the road today and is one that we already admire for what it can do. Imagine, after you finish tearing up the track and leaving all your friends in the dust, you can flip the switch back to cooling the cabin and ride home in your Demon in the comfort of a cool cabin. That’s a smart use of air conditioning and makes this system worth the added weight for what it adds to the performance of the car.
