Mazda has long been the symbol of affordable sports power largely because of its well-loved Mazda Miata. Over the past decade, the automaker has seamlessly transitioned into being a leader in the CUV and SUV market.

Mazda SUVs have grown in popularity because of their affordability, practicality, and undisputed style. The automaker continues this theme of innovation with its most recent addition of the Mazda CX-70.

Here’s what we know about this new two-row compact SUV.

CX-70 Brings Influences of the CX-90

In 2021, the automaker announced the addition of three new SUVs: the CX-50, CX-90, and CX-70. The first two models have already been introduced leaving drivers curious about what the CX-70 has to offer. While the CX-70 has not been unveiled yet, analysts have shared what drivers can likely expect out of this latest addition.

To understand the CX-70, we must first take a look at the CX-90 as the two are closely related. The CX-90 is a luxury three-row optional SUV targeted at families who want power and comfort. The CX-90 features a hybrid inline six-cylinder engine that puts out an impressive 340 horsepower. Because of this premium powertrain configuration, drive, handling, and performance are unsurprisingly above par with the CX-90.

While the CX-90 was well received when first announced, it might not be a perfect fit for all families. This is where the CX-70 comes in. Mazda introduced the CX-70 as a fit for families who need slightly less than what is offered with the premium CX-90. It’s expected the CX-70 will be built on the same platform as the CX-90 meaning you’ll get that same great drive and handling. While the CX-70 is advertised as being smaller, and likely lighter, drive and handling might be even more comfortable thanks to a more agile performance.

What to Expect with Cabin and Body Style

As far as the body styling and cabin design of the CX-70 goes, drivers shouldn’t expect any major deviations from the CX-90 — aside from premium options and add-ons. The body style will likely be very similar if not the same, complete with iconic Mazda styling accents such as an elongated hood and sleek side accents.

Because it’s a much smaller SUV, it’ll likely have a more sportier appearance perfect for everyday commuters or families who are always on the go.

Many of the elements found in current Mazda SUVs will likely be found throughout the cabin with the CX-70. While the CX-90 was designed to be more of a premium SUV, the CX-70 might still incorporate premium features including wood trim and Napa leather seats. Tech integration will certainly include features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a likely 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

When Will the CX-70 Be Available?

The CX-90 hit U.S. dealerships in late January 2023 and the CX-70 is expected to be available sometime late 2023. Pricing for the CX-70 has not been announced yet, but it will likely range anywhere between $35,000 and $40,000 starting MSRP.

Following in line with Mazda’s current offering, there will likely also be a plug-in hybrid variation available and while details like powertrain configurations haven’t been announced, all-wheel drive will likely be standard on all models.
