Honda recently filed a trademark in a large market that hints at a bit of a different vehicle to drive than what we’re used to.

Sometimes we forget that some vehicles, in fact, most vehicles aren’t actually sold in the market of North America. As one of the stingiest and most regulation-laden markets in the world, many automakers offer a variety of vehicles that are built only to be driven in other areas of the world. Even brands that we’re familiar with tend to gravitate toward other parts of the globe to enjoy the benefits of looser regulations.

The Honda Trademark in China

The Chinese intellectual property office filing from Honda is for a new sedan that may be based on the previous generation of the Accord. This could be a sedan that’s only offered for the Chinese market only, or it could hint at a model that starts in China and makes its way to the US eventually. Currently, the Honda team offers a sedan that’s similar in size and shape to this interesting design that’s called the Spirior. It’s possible the Spirior will remain in production and this new model will be sold alongside it to offer an alternative that could fit several budgets in the area while providing updated qualities.

This new sedan will have to be offered with more than just the typical Honda qualities that we know and admire. Even though the North American market is mired with regulations, China has even stricter requirements when it comes to emissions right now. You can expect this new mystery sedan will not only be one that meets these regulations but is also offered at an EV or hybrid model because of the new guidelines that state all brands must have a specified percentage of vehicles that are hybrid or electric offered.

We Don’t Know the Name But…

While we’re unsure of the name of the new sedan or were in the Honda lineup in China it will fit in, the sedan does have some of the qualities that we know and admire. This sedan filing shows a tall black grille, narrow headlights, and split taillights. So far, the filing offered shows a car that’s anonymous, and is difficult for us to say and understand what this new car will be. The mystery continues and has us intrigued by thoughts of what this car might become.

What we can expect is that Honda will likely debut a vehicle with a similar design at one of the local Chinese auto shows sometime later in the year. There are two major shows that will take place in Shanghai and Beijing and both have already come and gone, but there are still smaller shows where this car could become the headliner. If we find any new information regarding this new and mysterious Honda sedan, we’ll be sure to tell you all about it and let you know what this new car will be in China.
