The time of good-old gas-powered Ford cars is behind us – the famous manufacturer has decided it has bigger fish to fry.

First, it was establishing itself as the maker of the best versatile, powerful, innovative trucks on the market. Now, it’s dominating the electric vehicle scene.

The future for Ford lies in converting older model trucks and SUVs into new electric models and creating all-new experiences for drivers with original vehicle designs. And the automaker is doing just that by introducing teasers for a three-row electric SUV coming to Ford dealers in 2026.

Ford’s Changing Mindset and the New Electric Manufacturing Model

In the last few years, Ford has realized it can’t keep trying to be all things for all people. Until now, the company fought to create vehicles in all markets that would satisfy everyone, but according to CEO Jim Farley, “this is a new era.”

And what does this era entail? A focus on places Ford can really shine – large SUVs, pickup trucks, and new battery innovations for electric vehicles.

While everyone else is obsessing over bigger batteries to get better range, Ford is focusing on lightening the weight of its vehicles and getting the most range out of the smallest batteries possible.

This new way of manufacturing is set to be seen in the second-generation electric vehicles being produced, starting with the new three-row SUV the company is showing off.

Ford’s New Electric SUV – The “Personal Bullet Train”

Described by executives and Ford’s Ceo as a personalized bullet train, the unnamed three-row, seven-passenger SUV is the first creation of the company’s new electric vehicle platform.

It’s supposed to be a sleeker, longer, quieter, and more affordable SUV with ample size and interior space designed to go up against the electric Cadillac Escalade IQ when it reaches Ford dealer showrooms.

Lower-resistance tires, a lowered ride height, less weight, and a focus on aerodynamics have allowed this SUV to get a 300 to 350-mile range out of a battery that’s only around 100 kW, according to Ford’s chief advanced product development and technology officer, Doug Field.

Though it’s not actually an Expedition – according to Field, converting the current Expedition to an EV wouldn’t have made for a very good EV or Expedition model – it shares some similarities to the gas-powered SUV in exterior design and rows of seating.

While we don’t know the exact price of the vehicle set to be released in late 2025 and early 2026, it’s set to start around $60,000.

With the focus on electric vehicles like the new SUV, it’s no surprise that some are concerned about their beloved gas-powered Ford models.

Luckily, there’s no end in sight for the recently-created Ford Blue division – the global unit focused on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Until electric vehicles can achieve the same level of capability that Ford has spent decades perfecting in its ICE models, you’ll be able to find your favorite gas trucks alongside the new electric SUV at a Ford dealer for years to come.
