You may have known the Hyundai Venue as the smallest SUV available at your local Hyundai dealership, but the brand-new Casper is soon to take that title. While the Hyundai Casper isn’t currently available in the United States, it’s an exciting model that will hopefully make its way to this side of the country someday.

The Hyundai Casper hit the road for the first time this year. It may be the smallest crossover a Hyundai dealership has ever sold, but it packs quite a powerful punch. That means its small size doesn’t come at a sacrifice for style, performance, comfort, or features.

What’s Under The Hood?

As a small crossover, the Casper doesn’t need much to give it impressive performance numbers. This tiny vehicle comes with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine producing 75 horsepower and 70 lb-ft of torque. There is also an available 1.0-turbocharged engine that has a solid 98 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque.

Rumor is that there is an all-electric version of the Casper in the works, but don’t expect your favorite Hyundai dealership to get this one in any time soon. We’re still working on getting the gas-powered version in the U.S.

So Much To Love

Calling this compact vehicle cute would be an understatement. It may be small, but it still maintains the rugged look that you expect on an SUV. Most people quickly notice the silver or black triangular grille that makes you think this SUV is up to something.

There are some other interesting design elements as well. The side windows don’t match the way you’d expect them to, which makes for a stylish look that stands out. You’ll also notice roof rails and specialized hub caps. The interior is adorned with an intelligent touchscreen infotainment center and a fully digital instrument cluster.

Inside, you’ll find one of the most flexible interiors on the market. The second row of seats can slide back and forth just over six inches. The rear seats also recline to create more space and comfort for passengers. To ensure that you can haul plenty of cargo, both rows of seats have a foldable option. That means you can customize your seating configuration for nearly any occasion.

No Skimping On Safety

Stop by and any Hyundai dealership and be prepared to talk about Hyundai’s fantastic safety record. The Casper continues this trend with all of the features you’d expect. It may be a small vehicle, but there are seven potent airbags strategically placed inside.

You’ll also find various driver-assistance systems like lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and high-beam assist.

Coming To A Hyundai Dealership Near You…Someday?

The Hyundai Casper is an innovative and ingenious compact crossover that is sure to be a hit overseas. For the moment, U.S. drivers will have to admire it from afar. It’s unclear whether Hyundai plans to bring the Casper to this hemisphere, but it’s only a matter of time before drivers demand it.
