Honda added more safety qualities to its smallest SUV, the HR-V, to make sure we can have a vehicle that continues to be one you can trust.

Small cars haven’t always been considered to be the safest for us to drive. The smaller the vehicle, the more difficult for us to have the safety items that can keep us out of trouble or protect us when it’s time for a great drive. Even so, the technology of today makes it possible for us to avoid danger and stay safe.

A Top Safety Pick from Honda

The 2019 Honda HR-V can be equipped the right way to be an SUV that’s been given a rating that we want in our vehicles. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has donned this vehicle with the Top Safety Pick rating to make sure we know that it’s a model that can be right for the drive. The HR-V does need to be equipped with the optional LED headlights and the front crash avoidance technology to earn this top spot, but these are items you should have included in the SUV you choose to drive.

Upgrades to the Honda HR-V to Make it Safer

Structural changes to the HR-V include the use of stronger materials that make it easier for this vehicle to protect those located inside. The Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle, what HR-V stands for, is now able to keep you safer during a small overlap and moderate overlap front crash. This is demonstrated during the testing you see in the video below. These test results allow the HR-V to avoid items entering the cabin and causing harm to you or other occupants during a crash and this vehicle receives a good rating in all six crashworthiness tests.

Technology Improvements for this Honda SUV

The Honda team decided to add the benefits of a collision mitigation system to the Honda Sensing suite of safety technologies to improve this package and the features offered. The Honda Sensing package is offered as a standard part of the EX, EX-L, and Touring models of the Honda HR-V. This addition has helped the HR-V receive a superior rating during tests that are designed to avoid a collision in track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph. New LED headlights come with the top Touring model allow it to earn an acceptable rating, but the bae halogen headlights are rated as poor by the IIHS.

Honda has a History of Safety

We know Honda to have a strong history of offering us reliable vehicles that can be perfect for the drive that we want to experience on the road, but what you might not know is that Honda is also a brand you can trust for safety. The 2019 Honda HR-Vis the sixth Honda model to receive at least the Top Safety Pick award from IIHS. This means the HR-V joins the Accord, CR-V, Pilot, and Odyssey while the Honda Insight hybrid was good enough to receive the Top Safety Pick + designation.
