If you thought that Tesla had cornered the market for luxury EV driving and long-range offerings, you’d be right, for now. GM announced not long ago that the development of the future of EV driving would put their luxury brand, Cadillac, squarely in the forefront of the EV market in order to give us a lineup of models that would be luxurious and powered by a long-range EV powertrain to move the company and brand toward the future. This was further solidified with the recent reveal of the first EV from the Cadillac brand.

No Name but a Cadillac Vehicle Shows Up

The recent product blitz from Cadillac has been furthered by the first EV model being offered from this brand. This new model will be the first that is derived from the future EV platform that GM has developed. The goal is for the Cadillac EV model to hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of a global customer base. This new model is expected to represent the height of luxury and innovation while making it possible for the Cadillac brand to become the leader in the market for mobility.

Not Many Details of this Cadillac Yet

Even though Cadillac shows up with a vehicle that will be the EV model that we see in the future, the details of this new vehicle and its name are still a mystery. Will it be an altogether new model, or will it be a new version of an existing model, like the Cadillac XTS or CTS? We do not know. The idea of offering this new model for us to see is to make sure we know that GM is serious about allowing Cadillac to be the brand that carries the EV market forward for us to have more of what we want with an electric powertrain that will be right for the drive. This was part of an aggressive new product announcement that also brought us the all-new XT6 crossover SUV.

Even more Information from Cadillac

In addition to the new EV model and the XT6 announcement, the Cadillac team informed those in attendance that the company is looking for a future new model of the Escalade, an upcoming performance sedan, and the ability to introduce a new model at a rate of one every six months through 2021. This means we’ll see the Cadillac brand lineup grow by six models before the end of 2021 to give us more of what we want and a serious lineup of luxury vehicles to drive.

The Plan for the Cadillac EV Platform

As GM works to develop the Cadillac EV platform, they are keeping the idea in mind that this platform needs to be flexible and easy to adjust. The goal is to have the ability to respond to customer preferences within a short period of time. The portfolio from Cadillac will benefit from a variety of body styles that can be created using this architecture. The most advanced aspects of this platform are the drivetrains and the battery cells being used and the idea is to create them with the maximum ability to be used throughout the lineups from the GM brands.

Will you drive a Cadillac EV model in the future? If you’re looking for a luxury ride with an electric powertrain, you certainly might do just that. We’re going to see much more from this brand and have the ability to enjoy more choices in the luxury EV market going forward.
