Dodge, the automotive company that makes the infamous Dodge Chargers and Challengers, has some pretty big things planned in the future regarding electrification. While Dodge is known for its gas-guzzling muscle cars, they have no intention of being left in the dust. The automotive industry is charging toward a world full of electric vehicles. While some think Didge should stick to traditional gas engines, the company thinks otherwise. They plan to compete with the likes of Tesla, Ford, Hyundai, and Chevy.

These companies are already well on their way to producing EVs for the consumer. It’s not every day an era comes to an end, but the end is near for the Dodge Charger and Challenger. Well, kind of. Starting in 2024, all Chargers and Challengers will be electric ONLY. Some consumers are sad, others are excited at the prospect of something new and innovative.

Bigger than Dodge

Dodge is a popular automotive brand in the United States, but they are actually owned by a company called Stellantis. Stellantis also oversees the production of Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, DS, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Mopar, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall. That’s a lot of cars.

Stellantis is committed to the electrification initiative. They have a whole page on their website dedicated to the cause, stating:

“The global auto industry is driving toward electrification and Stellantis is in full execution mode with a comprehensive electrification strategy to deliver exciting, class-leading vehicles for our iconic brands that offer advanced technology at affordable prices.”

“This shift is being driven, in part, by our customers with eco-consciousness being the fastest-growing trend worldwide and across generations over the last 5 years. In fact, a global study shows that 64 percent of those asked consider preserving the environment as an important value.”

In the wake of Stellantis’ goals, Dodge is also committed to creating an electrified auto industry. According to Stellantis and Dodge, there are an overwhelming number of reasons to go electric, which also include being conscious of the world’s environment.

Dodge Charger and Challenger Going Electric

The most significant Dodge update is that the Challenger and Charger are going fully electric. No more fumes and no more emissions. This is great, great, great news, but some people do not agree with Dodge’s decision. Why, though?

You see, the Dodge Charger and Challenger are muscle cars and there are not many in production these days to begin with. Muscle cars are dying, and people are turning towards efficiency over excitement. The Charger and the Challenger are known for their loud engines, their excellent acceleration, and their aggressive designs. It was recently announced by Dodge that these cars would be discontinued and that a new variation of the cars would be unveiled in 2024.

They would still be called Chargers and Challengers, but they would no longer have those loud and proud engines they are so well known for. What was supposed to be exciting news was soured by the fact that the very thing that set these cars apart was being stripped away. Dodge held firm, though, and consumers have settled down some. In fact, some are excited about the new change. Consumers will be able to buy the all-new muscle cars at any Dodge dealer sometime in 2024.

While some consumers are down on the idea of electric muscle cars, they can’t deny that the new Chargers and Challengers are going to be sick. It’s projected that the new Challenger EV could have something like 900 horsepower and 500 miles of range. That’s insane. But with technology improving each year, it’s not all that surprising. You might miss your old muscle cars, but 0-62 mph in 2 seconds is amazing.

Plus, on top of this, Dodge has taken into account that consumers are going to need some loudness for all this power. They have ensured that the new Challengers and Chargers’ electric engines can roar, complementing their muscle spirit.

2027 Dodge Rampage EV

Another one of Dodge’s most popular cars is the Dodge Durango. The Durango is a large SUV with a lot of power. They are great for families and long trips. Consumers who need lots of cargo space love the Durango for its spacious interior. But Dodge has plans to replace the SUV with something way more efficient.

The Dodge Rampage EV, set to be available in 2027, is going to be the perfect replacement for the Durango. As automakers push for more EVs, they have to find a way to turn larger cars, such as SUVs, into efficient SUVs. GMC has done somewhat well with the new GMC Hummer EV, but they are going to have to be more efficient than that. Dodge is close, but they are giving themselves some time to perfect the formula, hence why this is coming out in 2027.

A New EV Truck

Dodge has a new EV truck planned for sometime in the near future. While it is still unclear when it is going to come out, it is clear that it is going to rival the likes of Ford and Chevy, who are already on their way to manufacturing an electric truck. The problem is similar to the SUV problem. Dodge needs to find a way to give the consumer range and reliability and keep all the features a truck provides.

A New Era

The end of an era signals the beginning of a new one. And this is exactly what that is. Dodge is evolving, and they are asking their beloved consumers to change with them, not against them.
