The Honda HR-V models that are sold in Europe are going to gain something more in the engine bay to make them more fun and exciting.

We’ve just come away from the Los Angeles Auto Show with the feeling of exhilaration that’s felt from seeing a large number of new models that will be part of the future automotive lineup when news of something big is happening in Europe. This SUV is now going to have a turbocharged engine under the hood in select markets in Europe.

Make the Move to North America

Our market screams for these small SUVs. If the growth of the SUV class isn’t proof enough, maybe the fact that all three of the domestic names in the US have turned away from sedans in favor of SUVs would be a deciding factor. Because of this, a more powerful, more fun, and more active small SUV seems to make a lot of sense. The question will remain until any confirmation is received, but we would certainly love to see a turbocharged Honda HR-V offered in the US.

It’s Not Just any Turbo in the Honda HR-V

Honda did the smartest thing they could and gave the European HR-V models the turbocharged engine that’s found in the Honda Civic. This is a turbocharged engine that we’ve admired for a long time and love for the drive. This 1.5-liter engine is able to give you 182 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive. For now, this SUV is only offered in FWD models and is mated to either a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission to give drivers the setup they desire right now.

Adding More to the New Honda HR-V

This new version of the Honda HR-V doesn’t just receive a tuned up and turbocharged engine, it’s also upgraded in other areas. There are upgrades to the suspension, new front and rear dampers, and upgraded steering. These improvements make the SUV easier to drive, more active in the corners, and an SUV that you can certainly admire. Inside the cabin, there’s a new black and red theme that gives this SUV a sporty style and appearance that you might want to enjoy the drive. If this version comes to the US, hopefully, it will bring this style along with it.

The Competition Requires an Upgrade

In the subcompact crossover SUV class, the Honda HR-V is certainly one of the most popular models, but it does need more power to compete with some of the other models that have entered the market. The new Hyundai Kona shows up with 175 horsepower from a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, making it necessary for you to have the added power that the HR-V can offer with the turbocharged Civic engine. The pressure is on, and it’s up to Honda to answer the call. They have the right model to do so, now it’s time to bring it to the US for our enjoyment on the road.
