The iconic Ford RS200 is coming back. It will be the first of several in a series from Boreham Motorworks, a London-based Automotive Group.

While you probably won’t see the new version of the RS200 at a Ford dealer near you, Ford gave Boreham Motorworks their permission and their blessing to bring its legendary rally machine back to life.

Forty Years Later

Forty years after the original RS200 arrived, the new version will have a completely new design. The big news is that this RS200 will be a road-legal Group-B car designed for drivers who love to drive. For those who need a refresher, there are between 140 and 150 Group-B road cars. They were made between 1984 and 1986 and have somewhere around 250 horsepower. All these years later, they are still considered a great find for car enthusiasts and collectors.

What Will the New RS200 Look Like?

There are still a lot of details to be released when it comes to the look and power of the new RS200. The teaser images the Boreham released show LED headlights but not much else. What we can expect to see is something that closely resembles the 1980s version but with a modern look and upgraded technology.

Boreham has made it clear that the new RS200 is new from the ground up and not a continuation of the old model. Experts won’t be surprised if the old fiberglass body is exchanged for carbon fiber, and there’s no doubt that a more powerful engine will be used.

The Original RS200

The original Ford RS200 was a mid-engine, all-wheel-drive performance car built by Ford Motorsport UK specifically for Group B rallying. In order for the car to qualify, they had to build 200 road-worthy models and about 20 racing versions. Power came from a 1.8-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower, but Ford provided upgrade kits if you wanted to boost power to 300 horsepower. Race versions of the engine were capable of churning out 450 horsepower.

Why the RS200? Why Now?

The timing of the release of the new RS200 coincides with the 40th anniversary of the original. Ford and Boreham want to celebrate its 40 years on the planet with the remastered version. So, if you’ve always wanted an iconic RS200 but were just waiting for one to come out with modern LED headlights, now is the time to finally get one.

What Else is In Store?

The Ford RS200 is just the beginning for Boreham. They are also working on a new version of the Escort Mexico. This is another Ford rally car. And once these are out, there are at least five other models to follow. Who knows, you just might see iconic Ford racers such as the GT40, Mustang Boss 302, and the Lotus Cortina at Ford dealers in the UK and hitting the streets in London.
