If you need a midsize SUV and want something efficient that still offers some towing capacity, the new Toyota Crown Signia just might be it.

It keeps happening. Toyota’s lineup is expanding again with a new hybrid SUV. The Crown Signia is based on the Crown sedan, but it sits up higher and comes standard with all-wheel drive.

What’s Under the Hood?

Power for the Crown Signia comes from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and two electric motors. These combine to generate 243 horsepower, which is just a little more than the Crown sedan. Since there is a motor for both the front and rear axles, this hybrid SUV comes standard with all-wheel drive. If you’re wondering if you can pull anything with this hybrid, you can. It has a 2,700-pound towing capacity.

A Comfortable and Spacious interior

You can’t get much closer to luxury than the new Crown Signia. Toyota has a reputation for having upscale interiors, but this outshines them all. Inside, the two front passengers have their own space separated by a high transmission tunnel. The cabin wears either SoftTex synthetic leather or genuine leather depending on if you have the XLE or Limited, and both front seats have an 8-way power adjustment. The rear seating is lounge-like with plenty of head and legroom.

No matter what trim you have, it will have a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a power liftgate, but the Limited tacks on heated rear seats, a panoramic glass roof, and a hands-free power liftgate that you can open just by swinging your foot under the sensor.

The More Technology the Better

Every time we see a new vehicle come out it has bigger and better tech. This is definitely the case with the Crown Signia. A 12.3-inch display sits right in front of the driver, and there’s a matching 12.3-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. It comes loaded with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and you can get voice controls with the available subscription service. If you need a place to plug in, there are three USB ports in the front and two more for the passengers in the back.

A perfectly acceptable six-speaker stereo comes in the XLE, but the Limited bumps this up to an 11-speaker JBL stereo that improves sound quality.

What About Safety Features?

Safety systems just keep getting better too. This new SUV comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. It has all the driver assist features we’ve come to know and love, including forward collision avoidance, automatic braking, and lane departure warning. The Proactive Driving Assist system can help with braking and steering when taking corners and when driving in traffic. An optional package for the Limited adds to the standard bundle with lane-change assist and traffic jam assist, which will allow hands-free driving under certain conditions and when you’re driving under 25 mph.

If you’re looking for a new mid-size, two-row SUV and want a hybrid, the new Toyota Crown Signia is coming. It has enough power to provide some towing capacity if you need it, and the near-luxury cabin will please every passenger.
