GMC brings us a much more useful second electric truck in the form of the 2024 GMC Sierra EV. This new EV could be the top model in the electric truck market.

GM makes full use of the Ultium platform used to build the GMC Hummer EV by making it the right platform for almost all EVs in it’s family of automotive brands. The new Sierra EV is the second truck from the GMC brand, bringing the half-ton truck size we admire in the Denali Edition 1 trim, which will start with a six-figure price. More affordable trims will arrive later, but this luxury-laden model gets things started.

Is the Sierra EV capable of real truck stuff?

This new GMC electric pickup truck is capable of towing up to 9,500 pounds, which is more than enough to give many owners the strength to pull a large trailer or boat to your favorite location in the wilderness. The Sierra EV also features a 71-inch bed which can handle lots of gear. Of course, this electric truck also brings a few tricks up its proverbial sleeve. When fully charged, the electric powertrain delivers up to 400 miles of driving range, rounding out the capability qualities of this pickup truck.

The MultiPro Tailgate makes its way to this new electric pickup truck. This tailgate offers six functions to make it easy to carry cargo, load, unload, and utilize this rear area much easier. In addition to this MultiPro Tailgate, the Sierra EV features a new MultiPro Midgate, which opens the rear wall between the bed and cap to open up nearly 11 feet of cargo length. If you thought you couldn’t carry a kayak or canoe in this truck, think again. There’s room for one passenger to sit in the rear with the midgate down, making this truck even more versatile.

Is the GMC Sierra EV a luxury truck?

The first model out the gate is the Denali Edition 1, which needs to offer plenty of high-end materials and features for the high price required. The Crab Walk feature first arrived in the GMC Hummer EV, allowing the massive electric pickup to drive diagonally around obstacles in its path. This new feature pairs with the 4-Wheel Steer function to make sure the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 can drive around obstacles out on the trails.

Plenty of power for your truck needs

This new GMC electric truck has a pair of electric motors to send 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft to all four wheels through the e4WD system in Max Power mode. The Ultium battery pack gives these motors enough power to drive continuously for up to 400 miles and charge quickly using an 800V DC Fast-Charging system. This truck charges twice as fast as the Ford F-150 Lightning, ensuring owners can continue the drive in the GMC.
