If you’re a Formula One driver, what do you drive when you leave the track behind? Some chose to drive some of the fastest McLaren cars in existence.
Rather than go over some of the racing machines that have hit the track and will never be driven by the Average Joe, let’s look at some fast road-going cars from the McLaren brand. While most of these cars still won’t sit in the garage of Joe Sixpack, they are cars made for the road and comfortable between the lines.
Five of These cars Hit the 205 MPH Mark
When making a list of the top ten of anything, if five models tie for the tenth spot, it’s only right to at least highlight all five of them. It’s not likely you’ll ever hit 205 mph in one of these cars, but if you want to schedule some track days, these McLaren sports cars could be what you want to drive. Here are the five that offer a top speed of 205 MPH:
McLaren 12C Spider
The 12C Spider is a two-door RWD convertible with two seats and a rear mid-mounted 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine producing 616 horsepower to give this car some incredible speed.
McLaren 675LT
If you’d rather have a coupe than a convertible, the 675LT is a great choice. This two-seater uses the same engine as the 12C Spider; no wonder these two are matched for their top speed.
McLaren 765LT
The 765LT is another coupe that reaches 205 mph, but it has a slightly larger engine. The engine for this two-seat sports car is a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine that produces 755 horsepower.
McLaren 765LT Spider
This is the convertible version of the 765LT, giving you a little open air feeling inside the cabin. The convertible build doesn’t cause this car to lose anything in the top speed category.
McLaren Artura
With a different bend, the Artura is an RWD Coupe that uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine with a plug-in hybrid setup. This car reaches 671 horsepower and gives you the 205 mph top speed using this smaller engine.
Next, the 207 MPH Mark Delivers Two McLaren Cars
Among the fastest McLaren cars in the market, two models reach the 207 mph mark and share the eighth position on our list. These two cars are:
McLaren 12C
The 12C uses the traditional 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine to produce 616 horsepower and give this car an impressive top speed. The 12C is smooth and well-styled to be one of the prettiest cars on this list.
McLaren 650S
The 650S also has a 207 mph top speed and uses the same engine as the 12C. This car delivers the classic McLaren styling with the S-shaped lines at the front, leading to the headlights.
The McLaren Senna Takes the Seventh Spot
The Senna ekes out the previous two to be in the seventh position with a top speed of 208 mph. This car is one of the most hardcore McLarens in the world, and it uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that brings it 789 horsepower. This car not only hits 208 mph but also offers a sprint speed of 2.8 seconds to reach 60 mph.
Two Cars Hit the Fifth Position with 212 MPH
Crossing over the 210 mph mark to reach 212, we see two of the fastest McLaren cars ever made. The two cars that share the fifth spot are:
McLaren 720S
This car is a coupe that uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine to produce incredible power and take the 720S to a 212 mph top speed. This car gives you 710 horsepower for your time at the track.
McLaren 720S Spider
Maybe it’s not fair to call the coupe and convertible models different cars, but McLaren has done this for years. The same equipment is in the Spider version of the 720S, and it also offers a top speed of 212 mph.
The Venerable McLaren P1 Sits in the Fourth Position
The McLaren P1 has been one of the fastest McLaren cars for many years. This gorgeous classic can hit a top speed of 217 mph, which is incredibly fast. The style offered became a symbol of McLaren and has carried forward to many other models. Using a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and PHEV system, the P1 delivers 904 horsepower and can cross the 60 mph mark in only 2.8 seconds.
The Bronze Medal Car is the McLaren F1 LM
How fast is the McLaren F1 LM? This car has a top speed of 225 mph, making it one of the top three fastest cars from this brand. The F1 LM uses a 6.1-liter V12 engine, making it one of the only naturally-aspirated cars in the lineup. Drivers receive 671 horsepower from this amazing car, and it can reach the 60 mph sprint mark in only 3.9 seconds. If you’re looking for a McLaren that’s fast and offers a natural power delivery system, this F1 LM is the car you’ll love to drive.
Another Early McLaren Sits in the Second Spot
The runner-up among the fastest McLaren cars ever made is a model that was sold from 1993-1997. This car is the McLaren F1. It uses the same power setup as the LM version, giving you a naturally-aspirated power delivery. The F1 can hit 240 mph, which is an incredible top speed. It’s pretty amazing that only one McLaren car has come out since that time to beat the F1. A little oddity but interesting about the two F1 cars is the fact they have three seats inside them.
And, the Fastest McLaren Is…
The fastest top speed for any McLaren is 250 mph. This speed is what you find for the McLaren Speedtail. This incredible supercar uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and a mild-hybrid system. This system produces 1055 horsepower and offers an incredible sprint speed of 3.0 seconds to reach 60 mph. Similar to the F1 models, the Speedtail offers three seats to give you a chance to scare the pants off of two other people when you drive this amazing car.
