Porsche is working on an EV SUV that will arrive in the market sometimes in the second half of the decade. This SUV could be the largest Porsche vehicle.

While we wait with bated breath to find out what this SUV includes, we can speculate based on some of the information offered from the brand. This new crossover should be a full-electric model that sits above the Cayenne and Macan in the lineup while delivering on what Porsche does best, sporty driving dynamics. This new model should be a sporty interpretation of an SUV with very little focus on the utility part, but that’s not something we’ll bother about.

Why Does Porsche Think an EV SUV will be Successful?

Right now, there are at least two reasons why a Porsche SUV should succeed in the current automotive market. First, the Taycan was a huge and surprising success for the brand thus far. The Taycan now outsells the 911 (who would have ever thought that would happen), and it shows that consumers are willing to pay more for an EV sports car. The second reason an electric SUV should work is that SUVs are the hottest segment in the global automotive market.

Taking Tech from a Concept Model

Porsche brought a new concept to Munich last year, which could give us a lot of the tech being used for this new vehicle. The Mission R showed up with a high-performance battery and a 920-volt electrical system. This system is designed to reduce charging times and give owners more driving time. The upcoming Porsche model is being called the K1 for now and it will include a direct oil-cooled electric motor, another feature found in the Mission R. This combination should offer an electric SUV that is extremely fun and powerful on any road.

Its Supposed to be the Biggest Porsche Ever

The new K1, as we’ll call it right now, could be the largest Porsche vehicle ever. If this new Porsche EV SUV is expected to be above the Cayenne, it will require three rows of seats to put it there. So far, we don’t know if that will actually happen, but we do know the plan is for the K1 to arrive in the second half of the decade, which gives the brand lots of time to find a name and give us more information along the way.

The Porsche 911 Might be the Last to Receive Electrification

It might have been kept quiet to this point, but Porsche intends for 80 percent of its global vehicle sales to be fully electric by 2030. This is a huge push and extremely aggressive. Considering the vehicles this brand offers, we can speculate the last model to receive electrification will likely be the poster child of the brand, the Porsche 911. The Porsche team has already informed us that the 718 will be electrified by the middle of the decade and the electric Macan will follow, leaving very few non-electric models.

What Does the Porsche Taycan Offer?

Understanding what the new Porsche EV SUV will be up against requires understanding that vehicle. The Porsche Taycan is one of the most popular high-end luxury sports cars in the market, and it’s an all-electric vehicle. This incredible EV delivers legitimate Porsche performance, futuristic styling, a luxurious interior, and a ton of standard features. The Taycan undercuts the Tesla Model S and Audi e-tron GT in price, which makes it an excellent choice for those looking for a serious performer with an electric powertrain. All other models need to stand back and take note of what the Taycan brings to the market.

Uncompromising Performance

The Porsche Taycan is the first electric car from this brand. There aren’t any compromises found in this amazing EV. What you’ll see is a car that delivers with a good track record of electrification and performance to give you an amazing ride. Of course, if you want to get the most out of the Taycan, you’ll have to shell out the dough to reach the Turbo S model. This is where you find a sprint time to 60 mph of only 2.6 seconds. It’s a wonder the tires stay on with a car driving that fast.

Four Seats, Yes Four Seats

Similar to the Porsche Panamera, the Taycan offers four comfortable seats and a cabin that’s filled with high-tech, top-notch features and materials. The seats are comfortable but made for performance driving. If you’re looking for a car that will impress another couple when you want to go out to dinner, the Taycan certainly does the job. There’s room in the rear trunk for 14.3 cubic feet of stuff and a small 2.8-cubic-foot frunk offers a little bit of room for items in the front of this performance car.

Lots of Power Options

The Porsche Taycan brings several power levels across the various trims for you to enjoy. Unfortunately, this is one area where Porsche falls short of Tesla, but that could be corrected with the new 920-volt battery system. Currently, the Taycan offers between 199 and 230 miles of driving on a single charge and between 402 and 750 horsepower for your drive. You can enjoy either a single motor layout or a car with a pair of electric motors. The new Porsche EV SUV might not have the range issues of the Taycan when it arrives.

Speculation Gives Us Something to Anticipate

We know it won’t arrive until after 2025 but thinking about a three-row Porsche EV SUV brings interesting thoughts. By the time this new SUV shows up, driving ranges will likely reach over 400 miles for most of the EVs on the road. Will Porsche catch up and surpass some of its competitors with better driving range? Will this brand only focus on performance and sacrifice range to that end? Could the new SUV be a family-oriented Porsche with more utility than the brand would like to let on? We consider these and other questions that won’t be answered until the new model arrives.
