With so many things going back to “normal,” Lego and McLaren teamed up to bring something unique to Australia.

When COVID-19 first struck the world, many countries didn’t know what to do and weren’t sure how to address the problem. For a few weeks, the world as a whole shut down. Streets that once bustled with activities were empty, events planned were canceled, and families had to connect from far away. As our world learns to live with this new virus, more events are happening, including races. For the return of F1 racing in Australia, a particular vehicle came to make an appearance.

This Might Be the First Thing Going Right for McLaren

As you might expect, some racing teams have kinks to work out before going, while others seem to have everything figured out right from the start. So far, the McLaren team appears to be in the former category. Call it woes, challenges, or learning how to be a team; they haven’t been perfect on the track so far this season. That said. The challenges facing this team and its racers were forgotten for a moment in Australia.

Going Big with Lego

The most popular children’s building block globally, Lego, created a life-size McLaren F1 racing car. This fantastic brick creation is incredible and looks exceptionally excellent. It’s so well detailed that it has the overly-complicated steering wheel seen in many F1 cars. Some of the racers already told jokes that the Lego version could outrace them or that that new model handles like a brick. Considering their current record, it’s probably good this team has a sense of humor about things. It will undoubtedly help them face their challenges and become a better team.

Maybe They Should Put an Engine in the Lego Model

The drivers seem pleased with the new Lego car that resembles that racing machine they take to the track each week. While it’s not fitted with a powertrain, not even an electric one that could make it fun to drive around on a parking lot, it is a pretty good likeness of the actual car. This is the car brought to Melbourne to celebrate the return of F1 racing for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. When it hit Australia, the last-minute cancellation of this race took place.

How Long Did it Take to Build the Lego McLaren?

The full-size car took thousands of hours for the Lego team to build the vehicle. This life-size version of the McLaren F1 car features more than a quarter of a million Lego bricks, which is a considerable number of bricks. Don’t get caught walking around that workshop in the dark; every dad can tell you about that problem. The unveiling of this car isn’t just about the race in Australia, although that is a pretty cool factor. The new Lego car is shown off because there’s a smaller version ready for many Lego lovers to enjoy.

Going Technic with McLaren

Lego created a to-scale replica of the F1 car, and the model taken to the track in Melbourne advertises that fact. The smaller model measures no more than 65 cm, making it much easier to fit in your home and display on a desk or dresser in a child’s room. This new car is the 2022 Lego Technic McLaren F1 set. If you’re looking for a present for a birthday or future holiday, this could be the one that many kids will enjoy. It’s certainly much more affordable than the life-sized version.

Has Lego Ever Created a Full-Sized Car Before?

Yes, they have. They’re starting to make a habit out of doing this, but one such model we’ve seen recently is the Lego Bugatti Chiron, which showed up when this brand-new car was first revealed. The fun and imagination of Lego creations are only matched by seeing the life-sized versions next to the actual vehicles they resemble. It will be interesting to see what the Lego team builds next. Still, hopefully, this grand unveiling in Australia will be enough to push the McLaren team to a much better season than what they already had going.
