When the new Mazda CX-5 debuted, we were promised a new powertrain would make its way to the North American market. For the 2019 Mazda CX-5, the new SkyActiv-D powertrain will be offered for the Signature trim. This means that you can have a diesel engine when you choose the highest level of the CX-5 for your drive. This new diesel powertrain is comprised of a 2.2-liter twin-turbocharged engine that makes 168 horsepower and 290 lb.-ft. of torque. This new powertrain allows the CX-5 to jump off the line because the peak horsepower arrives at 4,000 rpm and the torque reaches its peak even earlier at 2,000 rpm to give you the acceleration you want when you take this SUV for a drive.

The Rest of the Diesel Powertrain from Mazda

The Mazda SkyActiv-D powertrain will likely be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and you’ll have AWD when you choose this powertrain. The fuel mileage you’ll enjoy shows up at 27 city/30 hwy mpg to give you a bit of a bump over the other CX-5 models for the drive. There will be four colors for you to choose from when you’re ready to choose this version of the CX-5, which are Black, White, Machine Grey, and Soul Red. At this level of the CX-5, you’ll have a great drive that makes a difference for you on the road.
