If you love speed, you need to check out the Bloodhound_SSC Twitter account and take a look at the most recent video of this amazing car in action. Just recently the team at Bloodhound SSC has taken the car out to the Cornwall Airport Newquay in southern England to have a test run to see how this car will perform. This eighteen-second video is incredible to watch so that you can have an idea of what this car can do as it rockets its way from zero to 200 mph in only eight seconds while generating immense force.
The goal of the team at Bloodhound SSC will be to see if the car can reach 1,000 mph at some point during the actual run next year. Because that’s the goal you may wonder why they need to have the car reach insane speeds as quickly as possible. The answer to this is the fact that the car won’t have an infinitely long runway or track to run on and if it doesn’t accelerate quickly this car won’t have enough time and space to not only reach 1,000 mph but have the room to slow back down to a standstill safely.

Chasing Their Own Record

The land speed record was set nearly twenty years ago by the same team with Royal Air Force Wing Commander Andy Green at the wheel. He is the man piloting this new model from this team that will hopefully be the first to reach a four-digit speed on land. If successful, this car will break the record by over 200 mph and set a record that will likely take another two to three decades to break again, putting the responsibility for the next land speed record into the laps of the children of this current team.
This recent testing run showed Andy Green make two passes in opposite directions on the runway in front of 3,000 spectators. This is in preparation for the world-record attempt which may be on a dry lake bed in South Africa in 2020. That should give this team time to have a few more testing runs and make attempts that are longer and longer in order to make sure this car can be prepared and equipped to head out and make a successful run at the record when it’s time to make that a reality.
The video linked below is an in-depth look at some of the engineering and the power that goes into creating a car that can head out for the ride that will possibly break the land speed record. While this is a car you can’t take to the grocery store to pick up milk and eggs, this could be the most incredible run and highest speed we’ve ever seen when it takes place in a couple of years. Take a look at this video and let this rocket on wheels capture and take your imagination as you wait for the world-record run in a couple of years.
