Over the past few years, the hot hatch market has grown by leaps and bounds in the US. This is a segment of the market that wasn’t even thought of as something we desired except in a small number for many years. The most well-known in the US has been the Volkswagen Golf GTI which has been around for many years. Thankfully we now have the Honda Civic Type R and even some of our own brand are making hot hatches with the Ford Focus RS which is one of the most impressive cars you can drive. While our market is growing there are several hot hatches made that we currently aren’t able to buy.
Hyundai i30 N – The new N performance sub-brand from Hyundai is the first hot hatch from this brand and unfortunately this car won’t be seen in America. This is a hot hatch that offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that has 272 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque while using a six-speed manual transmission to be a car that we could certainly enjoy driving.
Seat Leon SC Cupra 300 – This gorgeous little hot hatch comes from a brand we don’t have in the US at all. Using the same sized engine as the Hyundai i30 N, the power of this hot hatch is tuned up to be 296 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque and offer the ability to reach over sixty mph in only 5.8 seconds. There is good cargo room and a lot of fun in this little car we can’t own.
Peugeot 308 GTi – This French automaker isn’t sold in the US either but it has one of the most impressive hot hatches on the market today. Using a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine this car brings in 272 horsepower and uses a six-speed manual transmission to make sure those in Europe can have one of the most fun cars to drive that can also carry the bags.
Audi S1 Sportback – We don’t even see an Audi this small in the US at all. This car uses the 2.0-liter TFSI Quattro powertrain to provide 231 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque to let you reach over sixty mph in only 5.9 seconds. This is a car that’s built right and offers you the elegant luxury styling you’re looking for on the road if you visit Europe because you can’t get it here in the US.
Vauxhall Astra VXR – This is a hot hatch that does look like an impressive sports car that is ready to roll on the road or track. This car brings you 276 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque and brings you a top speed of 155 mph. If you travel and have the chance to rent a hot hatch during your time, this is one you’ll certainly have a great time driving.
Volkswagen Scirocco R – We have several VW models in the US, but this isn’t one of them. This impressive car uses the 2.0-liter engine that makes 276 horsepower and has the ability to reach over sixty mph in only 5.5 seconds while attached to the DSG transmission. This car uses a manual transmission as well in which it can reach this speed in 5.7 seconds.
Renault Megane RS – With a short stance and a wide track this is a car that can offer you tons of fun on the road if you’re on the old continent. This car brings you 275 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque while allowing those that drive it to sit in Alcantara Recaro seats. This is a car that could be a lot of fun if it was brought to the US as well.
Renault Zoe e-Sport Concept – Even though this is a concept car, it won’t be made in a way that will allow it be offered in the US. The current version of this EV model offers 460 horsepower and 472 lb.-ft. of torque, making this one of the most impressive and powerful cars on this list, but unfortunately, we won’t have the chance to drive it and enjoy it in the US.
Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde – This tiny hot hatch has been one of the most loved on the market in Europe and it is offered with the Quadrifoglio upgrades that give you a 1.75-liter turbocharged engine to give you 240 horsepower and the power you want to be able to have the speed you’re looking for on the road and tracks when you visit Europe.
BMW M140i – This car doesn’t exist in North America at all and it certainly is one we would live. The M140i offers a powerful engine that comes in with 340 horses and 369 lb.-ft. of torque to be one of the quickest on this list. This little car can reach over sixty mph in only 4.6 seconds, making it a seriously fast car to drive.
