We recently heard a rumor that Ford was working on building a truck that would run either entirely on electric power or be a plug-in hybrid model that would offer a range of electric power before the gasoline engine would kick in. At the time, this was just a rumor and we didn’t know what the truck would be, but certainly hoped for an electrified form of the Ford F-150 that we love to drive every day. It seems, these rumors have recently been confirmed and we will eventually have such as truck on the market; at least we hope so.
The Electrified Ford has been Spotted
The use of spy shots to capture some of the actions taking place in the automotive industry is rampant enough that we often wonder why automakers bother trying to keep secrets from us at all. A testing mule of what could be a Ford F-150 with a plug-in port has been seen and photos have been captured to give us a look at what this truck just might be for the future. We can’t tell if this truck is a hybrid or a full EV, but it certainly has the characteristics we’re looking for.
A Closer Look at this Ford
Upon further inspection, the Ford F-150 that was caught plugged is using a thick cable that looks like it could be using a Combined Charging System that’s hooked up to a socket on the driver’s side of the front bumper. This is an easy place to hide a plug during this testing phase for this truck if it is one that’s used in the future. There’s also a deep running board which doesn’t do anything to hide the fact that the bed and body of the truck are higher off the frame than normal, indicating a battery pack will hide under the body, similar to many EVs.
it’s Probably a Hybrid F-150
Unless Ford had added some elements to try and throw us off, this new model that was captured in photos is likely a plug-in hybrid. There’s a tailpipe, which indicates a gasoline engine, but that might be a trick to throw us off. While there’s no indication that we’re going to see this truck arrive in production form, it’s important to see that an automaker is moving forward in the process of building trucks that offer electrification for the future.
